Mermaid Pool, Spa & Patio is a family-owned pool, spa and outdoor decor retail, installation and service center offering a range of products and educational opportunities including computerized water testing, consumer pool schools and on-site orientations. With two locations in Anderson and Muncie, the business serves much of Central Indiana.

History
Mermaid was founded in 1978 by Tom Murr and Dave Rich. Originally called Rich’s Mermaid Pools, Rich was the sales force with Murr on the construction crew. Years later, when Rich took a job with a pool distributor and sold his shares to Murr, Mermaid Pool, Spa & Patio, Inc. was born. Three other buildings in Anderson have served as home to Mermaid before its current location at 182 West 300 North. The original building was on State Road 9 North, now the site of Sylvester Construction. Two years later, 2237 Crystal Street became its home (it now houses Fred’s Garage). During these years, the pool store was closed in winter. Then, for 20 years the company operated in a 3,000-square-foot facility down the road from its present location in Anderson. Today, the company operates its two stores year round. The firm sold four swimming pools its first year; it now averages 20-25 pools per year and 60-70 spas. The staff has grown from the original two principals to about 30 employees during peak season.

Mermaid carries a variety of goods, including BioGuard swimming pool and spa chemicals, Hot Spring spas, Fort Wayne pools, Winston and Lloyd/Flanders casual furniture, toys and games, accessories and more.
