History

The Knickerbocker family started building pools in 1976, when Don Knickerbocker worked at Wright Patterson and Edie Knickerbocker was a teacher in the Beavercreek school system. The two started small, buying a kit to build their own vinyl-liner pool in 1972.

Eventually, the couple faced the choice between government job relocation and finding an alternate career in Dayton. They had already begun building pools, greenhouses and custom homes for their friends and neighbors, and decided to stay in the area, close to family, and expand the new business.

In addition to its six retail outlets, as well as its Xenia offices and warehouses, the business operates two outdoor pool parks for customers to see both inground and aboveground pools - on display year round - at its Xenia and Huber Heights locations.

The company also owns Knickerbocker Storage, which offers every variety of storage, including self-storage and mini-storage, in Xenia.
