A biocide is a chemical, microorganism or medium that can kill or inactivate a harmful organism. In the pool industry, this typically refers to chemicals that kill or inhibit the growth of aquatic microorganisms such as fungi, algae and bacteria. However, the term may be more generally applied to insecticides and other pest-controlling chemicals.
